This is stretching my gray matter to the limit, but did his 7'7 (23") make him the second best differential ever - after Jacobs' 23.25" (also a guess)?

Yes.

Go to Stefan Holm's site and at the top there's a link called "high jump" and in that section you can find a list of the 32 guys who have ever jumped 50cm (19.75") over their head.
