  • Men's 400 meter trivia

Only 35 times has a sub-44 mark in the men's 400 meter dash ever been recorded.

Twelve of the top fifteen fastest 400 meter marks in history were by the incomparable Michael Johnson.

Twenty-one of the thirty-two fastest 400 meter times in history were recorded by MJ.

No non-American athlete has ever gone under 44 seconds in the 400 meter dash. Only six athletes have ever gone sub-44: Johnson, Reynolds, Larry James, Lee Evans, Quincy Watts, and Steve Lewis.

Michael Johnson was the last to break the 44 barrier in the 400. That was on September 25th, 2000.

With that knowledge in mind, I'd rate the chances of a sub-44 before the OT as around 50-50, and it will add one more American name to the list if it happens.

    Fast is good.
