  • Who ran the first 4 minute mile?

    It's a trick question. Who officially first ran the mile in exactly 4 minutes? As a side note, Steve Ovett did it many years later.

            OK, so it was answered (sort of) a week or two ago. I am new to the board and the search engine is a bit unreliable.

            Well, can you tell me what year it was and who won the race?

              It was at London's White City stadium on September 3rd, 1958. Michael Blagrove in second also ran 4:00.

                Thanks for the #2. Herb Elliott won the race. Ibbotson later explained that he had made love to his wife about an hour before the race, so he was "very relaxed". Sounds plausible to me...
