"Longest," for God's sake! And even that isn't quite right. At the cost of a few words you have to say he was the black athlete with the longest put, unless you're talking about his own dimensions.

Michael Carter. Also, Jim "The Anvil" Niedhart. If you remember he wrestled for the WWF in the 1980s and 90s. He was a HS and Collegiate shot putter, with a PR of about 69'.
The flipside is that there have probably been dozens of guys who played in the NFL, and college, who never even picked up a shot - but who had the talent to be tops in the world. This isn't idle speculation. I went to HS with a guy who ended up a Hall of Fame offensive lineman, he never tried the shot. He goofed off with it once to show how strong he was as a junior, and fired it waaaaay over 60 feet not knowing what he was doing, and not putting a full effort into it. He was into other things, though. Didn't care for track and field. The coaches went nuts, but he shined them on. They seemed rather scared of this guy anyway.
