GH, I can promise you I read of the Moses 800 in the pages of TN and T&FN.

Didn't Felix Sanchez ran a sub 1:50 early this year? Possibly indoors?

Joey Woody ran the 800 quite a bit while in college. The top U.S. 400 hurdler for several years in the late 60s, Ron Whitney, started off as an 800 runner.

So, given Harald Schmid's example, why have so few 400M runners (hurdlers or flatties) moved up to the 800? It seems to me that a sub-48 hurdler should be able to string a couple of 50 second laps together. Especially if he is coached by Coach Barnet!

I saw Moses run a supposed 600 at an indoor meet at the Cow Palace in SF. The officals miscounted the laps, so Edwin, being a bright guy, stopped running after the 600. The rest of the field continued on for whatever the distance turned out to be (I can't remember the track size). That was not a very much lamented meet when it died. There are NO good seats in the CP.

FWIW, I don't recall Moses ever running even a non-serious 800. Not many guys with 13.64 high hurdle credentials do.

There was no WC in '85.

<In that same era, didn't David Patrick run some quality 800 meters?>

I am pretty sure I remember him running 800 at the '85 WC with David Mack.

In 1983, Moses ran 1:48.98 for the 800m.

    I think Harald SCHMID (47"48) was a 1'44" and

    international level time...

Yes you are correct that Schmid was a 1:44 guy...

He ran 1:44.84 in 1979 (Zurich) and then 1:44.83 in 1983 (Koblenz) (he also ran the 200m in 20.68s and the 400m in 44.92s, so he's got some all-round, impressive pr's)
