  • Interesting Olympic Trivia

This athlete won an Olympic medal in a multi-event competition. In one of those events, his mark/time was significantly better than the gold medal winner of that single event. Name, mark/time/, event?????

May be others, but Robert LeGendre's WR LJ (25'5 1/2, 1924 Pentathlon) is THE notable one. If there were performance tables then, he'd have won gold - but they were scored by place, I think, and he ended up 3rd. Just looked it up, and by today's scoring, he'd have won by 111 points! Heide Rosendahl also LJed farther in 1972 Pentathlon (6.83w) than her open winning mark (6.78)

      Here's a couple more:

-What was the first Olympics to be televised live in the US?

-What Olympics had the first official mascot?

LeGrende/LeFondre is the guy; not sure about spelling though. Two web-sites have different spellings. He jumped about a foot farther than the gold medal winner in the long jump.
