  • 100 Greatest T&F Battles of 20th Century

That's the partial title of a book I found recently on Amazon and just ordered.
The full title is "The 100 Greatest Track and Field Battles of the 20th Century".
It's by a T&FN writer (or former writer?), Jeff Hollobaugh.

I wasn't looking for it....was looking for books about track.....but not that one....had never heard of it before!!
    (Just published in 2012!)
But Amazon let me look inside at a few pages....and I was instantly sold!!

    Question: Has anyone read it?
What do you think of it?

I should get it in a week or less, and I'll dive into it then.
Meanwhile, anything you can tell me about it......and anyone else who might be interested!......or any opinions, good or bad, you have about it......please lay 'em on me!!

    It LOOKS great!!!

Re: 100 Greatest T&F Battles of 20th Century

        Just got the book today!
Haven't read it, but quickly scanned the pages, checking to see how HIGH Hollobaugh placed the greatest mano a mano battle in track and field history......the Billy Mills vs Gerry Lindgren 6 mile at the AAU meet in San Diego in 1965.

Was it in the Top Ten??
        No.
        Top 20?
        Nope.
        Top 50?
        Nyet!
Was it even in the damn f--king book??
        NO!!!!!

        How dare he?!
(I had to really WORK to convince myself to not return it immediately and demand a full refund!!)

Okay, okay, I do tend to exaggerate a bit sometimes.
        I won't send it back.
But if it isn't FIRST on MY list, it's pretty damn close!!
        (Absolutely Top FIVE!!!)

And then he puts that Bayi-Walker 1500 in 1974's Commonwealth Games just 92nd??

Hey, GH, why the hell did you HIRE that guy??!!
        (Just KIDDING!!)

It IS a bit smaller in size than I thought it would be.
        And fewer photos.

But, bottom line, it looks like several hours of VERY fascinating and enjoyable reading!

          OOPS! ops: ops:

          Scanned the pages too fast!
The Mills-Lindgren 6 mile race IS in the book!
          It's # 76.

Still, I woulda ranked it in the Top 5!!

The Amazon page tells you exctly the size and number of pages of the book. Are you saying the info is incorrect?
