Today (Saturday) marks 282 years since the birth of George Washington. Some believe he was a pretty good long jumper. Today also marks 134 years since the birth of an Olympic champion with more than one Olympic Games gold medal.

Our birthday athlete was 19 when setting a world record and was 32 when winning an Olympic gold medal in the country in which this athlete was born.

Born in a city which hosted the World Championships some 115 years after the birth of this athlete, our birthday person died at the age of 50.

Don't concern yourself with the hurdles when wondering who this person is, however our birthday athlete competed in several different events.

Who is our birthday champion on Washington's birthday?

      Re: Freestyle

LopenUupunut, you are good. Your are right, Eric Flemming was born 134 years ago today. Eric was quite an athlete, winning the javelin throw in 1908 (London) and again in Stockholm (1912). There use to be a "freestyle" javelin, which Flemming also won. In the freestyle javelin, you could throw it using any grip you wish. The "freestyle" javelin was stopped because it was so similar to the regular javelin throw.
