  • Notable supporters of track and field?

Who are some of the top supporters of our sport?

One person who comes to mind around here is Irwin Belk. He has financed tracks at U. of North Carolina, Davidson U., UNC-Charlotte, Furman U., and many others. He also financed the track at my little brother's high school in Chattanooga, McCallie School (alma mater of Mr. Belk).

Article says Mr. Belk has financed 17 tracks:

A big thank you to Mr. Belk for his support of track and field. Who are some other generous track supporters? Companies, of course, can be included.

Mrs. Audrey Walton of the Walmart Waltons was the major contributor to the track and stadium at the University of Missouri.

Bill Cosby has already been mentioned, but he also donated the indoor track to the University of Nevada (Reno). I understand that Johnny Mathis has been a generous supporter of San Francisco State.

Too bad the Bill Gateses of the US aren't big T&F fans. The whole sport could be floated for years.
