>Lorenzo DANIELUbeja ANDERSONSteve KERRHenry THOMASDevlon DUNN>Dawn SOWELLDanny HARRISLamont SMITH...(... and so many other>enigmatic potentials.)Hey now...I went to high school with Devlon Dunn in Alief, Texas and he was not a waste of talent. Infact, he is an example of someone who maximized his talent. With high school PR's of approximately; 48.8 (400), 22.0 (200), and 11.1 (100,)Devlon was not offered a scholarship to the University of Colorado, where his sister did have a scholarship, so he walked on! Devlon was able to lower his 100 and 200 PR's to 10.03w and something near 20.2. He also went to the olympic trials in 1988 and 1992 when he was 21 and 25 years old. If you will recall, Devlon had to compete for an olympic berth against the likes of Carl Lewis, Leroy Burrell, Calvin Smith, Mike Marsh, Kirk Baptiste, Joe Deloach, Andre Cason and Mark Witherspoon. FYI - Just about all of those guys have OG or WC medals. Unfortunately, Devlon never made it to an OG's or WC's, but all in all, I would say that he did pretty well for a slow quartermiler who never advanced to the Texas state meet in high school. I was fortunate enough to compete against and train with Devlon on and off from 1983 - 1996 and let me tell you he was one heck of hard worker on the track, but most importantly a good friend, and a quality human being.
I am Ubeja Anderson and it is funny how I became a wasted talent. In 96 doctors wanted me to have screws put into both of my navicular bones for stress fractures. I refused! I ran 13.3 and left SMTC for money reasons. The biggest mistake I made was training with Curtis Frey who helped me run 13.6 and kept Allen on top. Moving back to Houston in 99 I got 4th indoors but because of the SMTC name and The Angry Hurdler tag on my back it was hard to find an agent. So I said I have a family and that is all I need. I will be on the track in 05 so look for me and guess what I WILL BE DRUG FREE LIKE ALWAYS. Unlike so many other athlets out their. Write me.
