  • NCAA wSprint Trivia

Muna Lee just became the fifth woman ever to score 8-for-8 in NCAA dashes. Who were the other 4?

For bonus credits which 3 of the 4 (like Lee) also scored in the 4x1s to get 12-for-12 scores?

I don't think Angela scored often in 200. Could be wrong. I have no concise reference (and I assume that AIWA doesn't count) and I'm not sure I want to dredge through the old T&FNs. I'll think on it.

Esther Jones-LSU,Carlette Guidry-UT ? If I get one right, i might venture another guess.

        <EDIT> and possibly Merlene Ottey-Neb

Williams never made it to an NCAA 200 final; Ottey was a junior before the NCAA came around; Guidry scored 3 times in each (and made a fourth final before FSing in the 100).

Esther Jones is one of the correct answers; so who are the other four?

              (1) Muna Lee + relay
              (2) Esther Jones + relay
              (3) Debbie Ferguson + relay
              (4) Mary Onyali - almost relay
That leaves 1. hummmm. I'll think on it.

Hey GH, was the fifth person to your trivia question Cheryl Taplin? I checked a NCAA historical results webb site, and assuming the site had correct listings, Taplin was 7 of 8. I found quite a few women that were 7-8 but not 8-8. I was just curious about the fifth person. You gonna tell us, or do I need to keep looking? :-)

EDIT: <G> that's website not "webb site"

The NCAA site (http://web1.ncaa.org/ncaa/mainsearch.do) is incorrect - the "missing" race for Taplin appears to be the 1993 200m - the NCAA site doesn't show her as scoring. However, she did, finishing eighth. Looking at the pdf version, which is a copy of the printed results of the meet, it looks like Taplin's result fell off the end of the page, as seventh place was right at the bottom.

Scoring (just for the 4-timers; there are others with fewer appearances who may have better scores):

                        100
                        Jones 32
                        Ferguson 29
                        Lee 27
                        Taplin 22
                        Onyali 16

                        200
                        Lee & Onyali 29
                        Jones 26
                        Ferguson 23
                        Taplin 15

                        Combined
                        Jones 58
                        Lee 56
                        Ferguson 52
                        Onyali 45
                        Taplin 37
(Ottey had 38 in just 2 years)
