    Brazil

Happy birthday today (Sunday) to an Olympic champion who won the gold medal two days before turning 23 years old.

Our birthday athlete did not win the Olympic gold medal in any distance event, any field event, any hurdle event, or the decathlon.

This person had two daughters and five sisters.

There was a new world record with this Olympic gold medal.

Born 106 years old today, this champion died at the age of 84.

If you are from Indiana or Rhode Island you might know this athlete's name, otherwise good luck naming our birthday athlete for this second Sunday in August.

Ivan Fuqua is a Hoosier, and was on the 1600 relay team that won at the '32 OG's in LA, so that's my pick.

Nice job, dukehjsteve. It is Ivan Fuqua who was born today 106 years ago. Fuqua ran the first leg of the four by 400 U.S. team in Los Angeles some 83 years ago.

And although I am a Hoosier myself, I did not know the "Brazil" meaning until I just wikipedia'ed Fuqua. Hometown is Brazil IN, about 20 miles east of Terre Haute. IU grad, and coach at Brown for many years.
