Once he had the appendicitis, two days before he was set to challenge the HSR at 100, it seems he spent the rest of his career fighting one injury after another. But his occasional forays at 400m at Hawthorne and UCLA, including an incredible relay leg at Mt SAC against their usual array of all-star teams, left one begging to see him give it his full focus.
      (Then, of course, was the career-ending dumb mistake that sent him to prison . . .)

          For my money in recent times, it was the X man Xavier Carter.

          Also on the women's side so many just burn out young. I was hoping Brigitta Barret would be a world record setter, but pfft, she's done.
