Happy birthday today (Thursday) to an Olympic champion who died at the same age as President Abraham Lincoln (56), however our birthday athlete died about 77 years after Abe Lincoln died.

Our birthday athlete won the Olympic gold medal at the age of 22 and tried to repeat four years later, but only placed ninth in the second of those two Olympic Games.

No hurdles were involved in our birthday champion's Olympic gold medal.

Born on a Tuesday; our birthday champion won the Olympic gold medal on a Wednesday; today (Thursday) marks 131 years since the birth of this athlete, and this individual died on a Friday during the World War II years.

This champion set an Olympic record in winning the gold medal.

You can skip the sprints, relays, decathlon, and all of the weight events when thinking about our athlete's event.

I know this is not easy, but I believe someone knows the name of this Olympic champion. Please name our birthday athlete for this penultimate Thursday of March.

LopenUupunut, you are good. Nice job and yes, it is Frank Irons. Frank Irons won the first Olympic long jump to be held in London (1908). He returned to the Olympics four years later in Stockholm, but was not in very good form and did not make the top eight. Thank you, LopenUupunut.
