We do not have exact DOD and POD. If you can find it, please let me know.

According to this obit, he died Sunday 20 May.

Funeral home is in Milton MA, and although it is not entirely clear if he resided in Milton, good chance that was the POD.

Yeah, just saw that, WRC, but still not sure if he died in Milton, although, like you, I suspect he did.

Boston U. website says he "settled in Milton". Of course, that doesn't mean he died there.

The Irish Times article linked from T&FN's Headline section also mentions that he settled in Milton.

Very sorry to hear of John's passing. I remember spending time with him when I was growing up since he and my dad, Al Hall, were good friends and spent a lot of time competing in the hammer all over New England for many years. They remained close for many years after their hammer throwing careers had ended and I always remember that he was such a nice man and a wonderful competitor.
Retired triple jumper and paying the price! Son of Al Hall

A guy from Ireland sent me an obituary of John Lawlor - this is from the obituary (its in a geology journal - he was a geologist). Very interesting:

It was during those early years of drilling out and proving the Teberebie deposit that we got to share some of the best stories from the old days. I do remember one story told around a dinner table in Accra with John and Noel and others about John’s representation for Ireland at the Rome Olympics in 1960. The bus from his hotel to the stadium got caught in a traffic jam and, realizing that he was going to be late for his allotted throwing time, John jumped off the bus and ran to the stadium.

Having arrived there, he was refused admission, because he had left his accreditation papers in his jacket on the bus. No amount of gesticulation and explanation could persuade security that he was due to throw the hammer for his country in less than 10 minutes’ time! So John went around the corner and climbed a fence into the ground and made his slot with only moments to spare. Amazingly, he came within a few tens of centimetres of a bronze medal and finished in fourth place.
