Happy 72nd birthday today (Friday) to an Olympic champion who won two Olympic gold medals in the same event at two Olympic Games.

This birthday athlete won the first of those two Olympic gold medals approximately 320 miles (515 km) from this person's birthplace.

No hurdles were involved in these gold medals.

Can you name this champion with these few clues?

    Give it a try.

Ruth Fuchs - reasoning as follows - probably was about 22-30 in the years he/she won gold - that puts in most likely as 1972 and 1976 (possibly 1968/72), and she's the only one I can think of who gold at both of those Games - and its not the hurdles

Happy birthday today to Ruth Fuchs. Of course she won the javelin in 1972 and 1976. Lasse Viren also won gold (twice) in those Games. He did it in the 5,000 and the 10,000. Viktor Saneyev (triple jump) also won gold in 1972 and 1976, as well as 1968. Nice work, bambam1729.
