Happy birthday today (Saturday) to an Olympic champion who was born on a Wednesday 114 years ago and died on a Wednesday at the age of 93.

This person competed in three Olympic Games and won that Olympic gold medal in the second of those three Games.

Our birthday athlete competed in three events at each of the first two Olympics and competed in only one event at the last Olympic Games.

Some of you may know that this individual was the first from a certain country to win an Olympic gold medal.

No hurdles were involved in any of the three events this person participated in at the Olympic Games.

Please name our birthday champion for this fifth Saturday of March.

Very well done, Mr. Bowie. Mikio Oda (winner of Japan's first Olympic gold medal) won the 1928 Olympic triple jump. Oda was sixth place in Paris (1924) and he competed in the triple jump, long jump, and the high jump at both of those Games.

To honor Mikio Oda, Japan built the 1964 Tokyo Olympic flag pole 15.21 (49' 11") high. I'm not sure what they have planned for next year's Olympic Games.
