Re: U.S. 100/200 Doublers At OG

Thanks Steve. I certainly have spent time over the years in my car, commuting thinking up all kinds of angles regarding the Olympics.
I would have loved to have Stanfield running the 100 in 52 but he was probably concerned with injuries.
But,hey! this year we got Crawford and Gatlin to look forward to!

      >OK, so if tandfman is right then no Americans ran in both sprints in 1952,1960,1964,1968,1972,1976,1992,2000. Earlier than 1932 I would have to look it up.<

While you're at it, check 1960. I'm pretty sure Ray Norton ran both the 100 and the 200 in Rome.

he absolutely did, finishing 6th and last in both finals.

Yes, that was stupid of me as Norton was one of the obvious doublers.

If I had meant "no American ran in either sprint," I would have said "no American ran in either sprint."

The first year appears to be 1928. There was no 200 in 1896, and so both sprints is a null class that year and, to phrase it very awkwardly, you couldn't either run or not run in both sprints.
