Re: Track & Field News started their..................

Clarence Childs held the school record at Florida A&M in the 100 yard dash at 9.4. He was also one of the great kick returners in the NFL "AND" a defensive back for the NY Giants. Hayes broke his record in the 100 at Florida A&M. Childs told somebody he could cover Hayes one on one.

Never did find out how that went.

The Giants did sign Henry Carr as a db!

      >Yep Loyola's Bob Boyd!

Buddy Young was the first of the black speedsters at
      >runnuing back.He was also an NCAA 100 champ while at Illinois,all 5-4 0f him!

I looked up the list of 100 meter ncaa champs and saw Boyd. But i did not submit his name here because 1) I had looked it up, but also 2) was he not a defensive back for the Colts, not a running back ?

Thanks for the replies. I always thought Hayes was a running back (I do know the difference between a running back and a wide receiver, I promise) given his power.

Warren Wells a 9.4 guy? My BS meter is getting a tingling feeling on that one, and with quickie research I can't find any hint of him as a sprinter with any credentials. Please provide details.

Warren Wells belongs to the same school as Harold Jackson who was always referred to as a 9.3 man.I bet you show a 9.4! What do you have for Nolan Smith? He was suppose to run a 9.4 while at Tennessee St.

It was some game back in the day and Wells had just caught another bomb from Lamonica when the announcer said..."that 9.4 speed can be deadly!"..I never thought to actually check it out.

                  I will say this......

Warren Wells was incredible as a long ball receiver and yep he had as much speed as anyone I've ever seen in that role with the exception of Hayes.

And here I thought that the TFN board could be trusted. Now I find people putting up trivia questions based on " I heard the football announcer say it" and justified as "I never bothered to look"? That's kind of mind-boggling. If you're going to ask trivia questions how about asking ones that are based on fact not schoolyard hand-me-down chatter?
