I know i might catch a wrath bout this, but Calvin Smith is the greatest. He was the smallest sprinter to ever run a sub 10. he was always in carl lewis shadow. But he had a great career. Just think how the wind tore into him. a p.r. of 9.93, just think if he ever had a real start what he could had done.

Re: the best sprinter pound for pound
Ok, I know I get my head handed to me worse than usual every time I venture over here but wasn't Pietro Mennea short and small?
edit-or maybe a WR, since it was at altitude, isn't enough for him to qualify?

Mennea 5-10/154.
And for those Canadians who don't like the lack of metric there, I'll note that I visited my mother in B.C. over the weekend and the big (new) sign at the entrance to town lists the elevation in feet (no meters) and the restaurant we went too listed all the beef in ounces and seafood in half-pounds (no meters).
Long live imperial!

Re: the best sprinter pound for pound
Double Olympic champ Percy Williams was a 126 pounder when he pulled that off.
World record holder at 10.1 Ira Murchison was only 5-4!
They have got to be the lightest and shortest of the "great" sprinters.
CPSLO's had Bobby Turner a 9.3 guy who was like 5-6 135 or so. Kansas's Cliff Wiley was a 137 pounds and could cook a 400.
