  • So who were the those "10?" guys to beat the Bullet?

    It appears I was wr..ah..wro..mmmmm..wron...damn..wrong...ouch!!!!! !!

The Olympic trials of 64 saw Hayes beaten in the 200 and I read yesterday that Trenton Jackson beat him in the 100. I didn't know that. Does anyone have the full results of those trials? There was actually two trials in 64? How this slipped by me I have no idea.Yep....DUH!!!!!!!!

Ok so as of right "now".....ha! These are the "10?" guys who beat the Bullet.

Alfred Austin..was the stud high school sprinter in Jacksonville in Hayes day.He was the first to beat the Bullet. They would both end up on the sme 4x1 team at Florida A&M.

Jimmy "Peach Head" Gordon (a redheaded black guy) beat him at State. Gordon was shot and killed in a gangland incident shortly afterwards. The only guy Hayes never gained revenge on.

Henry Carr..beat him many times in the 200

Roger Sayers..yep Gale's older brother beat him in a 100yd

Homer Jones..beat him in a 200.Jones having the distinction of being the first player to score a td on Monday Night Football. He was a wide receiver also.

Darel Newman..the only pale face sprinter to beat Hayes, beat him in a 60.

Harry Jerome... beat Hayes in a photo finish in Modesto.

Now add...Paul Drayton,Dick Stebbins and Trenton Jackson?

I'd really like to see those 64 Olympic trials results. It's like I'm missing out on something I should know, yep I won't be able to sleep or eat until........hahahaha!!!

Brutal, if you SAVED your old T&FN's, you could just pull those 1964's out and read 'em !

But I'm off to work, can't help you right now except to report that the semi finals were at Randalls Island in NY( I was there) ... winners "guaranteed" a final berth, top 6 go to the FOT in LA later.

      I didn't start subscribing until 1966.

I went to shave and saw a stranger in the mirror, there were big bags under my eyes and my hands wouldn't stop shaking. I'm not sure how long I can go on like this. It's only 7am on the west coast and I'm thinking about having a drink.Yep it's that bad.I need those results in the worst way it's like a part of me is missing. It's like a puzzle with a piece missing.

      HELP!!!!!!!

And Brutal, I remember that Hayes was hurt so did not run in the SFOT, but due to his obvious eminence he was given a special "pass" into the FOT.

            Re: So who were the

Sorry if this has been covered, but:

1964 OT 200m finishing order: 1st Drayton, 2nd Stebbins, 3rd Hayes, 4th Carr. I don't have the times. Hayes dropped out, allowing Carr on to the team.

I believe there was some dispute about whether Jerome finished ahead of Hayes in Modesto, though the official result of course stands for this discussion.
