In today's issue on page 4 D, there's an article on the Decathlon that includes historical stuff on prior US winners, from Thorpe to O'Brien
One minor omission/error, plus a puzzle at least to me:
They mention Milt Campbell's 1952 silver and then his 1956 gold, but for Rafer Johnson, the mention only his 1960 gold, with no mention of his 1956 silver.
And the puzzle is in the paragraph on Milt Campbell, and I quote:
"Milt Campbell, another superb all-around athlete, later played in the NFL. He was world-ranked in judo and is the only man to have been inducted in both the track and swimming halls of fame..."
HOw much of this is true, perhaps all ? NFL ? Judo ? Swimming ?
