  • Don't forget Davies-Oklahoma State

Seems like Davies vaulted 15'10" or 11"about 6l or 62. I'm not exactly sure but he was good with a steel pole.

Sometimes technological advances make older achievements seem pretty weak by comparison to todays.

Some of the landing pits then were downright dangerous to the health of vaulters and high jumpers too. Foam rubber pieces surrounded by fishnet was about the standard.

I still remember when the U.S Marine Uelsys broke 16' indoors. A little like when Bannister broke 4:00 in the mile.

Davies was the first fiberglass record setter. Also the obscure answer to a great trivia question: who was the last WR setter before the first 16-footer.

        Don't forget Davies

George Davies set a WR in '61 at 15' 10 1/4" and tied for first at that year's NCAA champs. He vaulted 15' 7" in '62 and 15' 6 1/4" in '63 before retiring. he made a comeback in the '67 indoor season going 14' 10" and then retired for good.
