Not too sure on any of them, but my guesses would be:

    A - LA, 1984
    B - Ulrike Meyfarth, 1972
    C - Rosemarie Ackermann, 1976
    D - Mildred McDaniel, 1956

I don't think Balas ever switched to straddle.

You beat me to it Pego, I was going to say the same thing. She used some kind of a scissors deal. And Mark, for shame not knowing McDaniel; she set a WR in winning in Melbourne at 1.76. After that it was all Balas for many years.

            Re: High Jump trivia

Jon is right about Ackermann, McDaniel and Meyfarth but A. 1984 is incorrect.

Balas never was able to master the Straddle and never swithed. She used a version of the Eastern Cut-off but her upper body is quite high over the bar almost like in the Scissor. I believe the Flop would have suited her just fine.

I believe that McDaniel just recently passed away. Seemed like a very classy lady.

Who was the first OG champ to straddle?

Juri Tarmak, '72. For women, it might have been '80? - Keilan or Kirst.

Yes indeed, Powell 1980 it was. Simeoni, Kielan and Kirst all floppers and Ackermann the straddler in 4th.

For the questions about the men. Charley Dumas was the first Gold medal winner to straddle. (that question has been up before) and Tarmak was the last gold medal winner to straddle 16 years later.
