  • Track and Field and Politics...

Who are, according to you, the most outstanding
athletes through their political impact in
    history?
Of course, we all think, in the first place,
about the untouchable legend Jesse OWENS.
Abebe BIKILA's victory in the 1960 Roma Olympics
had a fantastic political echo in the World
then, treated like a myth by many freshly
    decolonized third-world countries...
Tommie SMITH had an incredible political impact
in 1968, with John CARLOS and Peter NORMAN in
    the 200m Olympic podium.
    Who else?...

Zátopek and ÄŒáslavská, both sport legends and highly positioned in the political hierarchy of Czechoslovakia came out courageously with the denouncement of the Soviet led occupation of 1968. Both of them paid severe consequences for this action.
