Well that may indeed be true, but that's not it.

Win golds in both the 4x1 and 4x4 relay within the same Olympics...?

Jon, you take the prize! No one else has ever done it, even in the old days.

Quite a surprise, I agree. But then there hasn't been too many high-profile male sprinters who were good enough to medal in both sprint relays, and the only other female doublers I could think of never got gold in both relays (Flo Jo, Torrence, etc). Great question!

OK, now it's your turn to answer my triv! ;-)

I always thought that Cheeseborough was underrated, and unfairly overshadowed by Brisco. Did she retire after the '84 Games?

                  Re: Chandra Cheeseborough's unique accomplishment

Not all that surprising when you consider that there was no women's 4x4 until 1972,and not until 1984 (after the Soviet shenanigans of '80) did you get freeform substitution in the heats.

ps--Add in that 1984 was the EastBloc boycott year when the best 4x4 (and perhaps the best 4x1, sine they set the still-standing WR the next year) wasn't in the OG and while it's a for-real stat, it's one that packs a lot of baggage.

Had it not been for the boycott, Marita Koch would probably have won golds in both relays.

The USA would have given them a hard way to go in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 84.

yup...because she had won the trials and set an american record of 49.28
