  • sub 4:00 brothers ?

Just read of Indiana University's Jefferson brothers easily cracking 4 minutes in the same race today.

Not a trivia question, as I don't know, but how many brothers have both broken 4 minutes ? Are there a lot of them ?

    edit to add:
Maybe this belongs under Historical. If so, Ben can make the switch.

        Re: sub 4:00 brothers ?

i believe there were twins at a small college (not division 1) that had twins, and one was 5th in the 84 olympics in the 5k the other brother was about as good, i think their last name was cheriyot. peter rono who won the 84 olympics in the 1500 was on their college team. all 3 could run sub 4 for the mile/1500 equivalant. i think the cheriyots were twins. can anyone confirm this. i think the college was marymount on the east coast.

Another set of sub-4min twins: Andy and Allen Graffin (GBR) whose bests are 3:54.70 and 3:59.86 respectively. They both actually went sub-4min in the same race back in 2000 in London (where Allen set his PB). Also, in that same race was another set of brothers - Fethi and Hicham El Guerrouj! Hicham won it in 3:45.96, but unfortunately his brother finished way back in 4:10.

There was a NYT article a couple of years ago that listed 13(including 3 sets of twins) so there are at least 14 now:

"It also includes one father-and-son combination, Kipchoge and Martin Keino of Kenya, and at least 13 pairs of brothers, including three sets of twins. Miling, you might say, runs in families."

edit-found the list. I'll let you guys fool around with this for a while and then post it

Canuck Benniger went under 4 there for the first time.

Not unexpected since he just missed 4 last year.

"Freshman Mike Woods (Ottawa, Ontario/Hillcrest HS) also clocked an NCAA provisional time in the event, registering a personal-best 8:02.01 to claim seventh place. Woods shaved more than 10 seconds from his previous best -- recorded just two weeks at the Red Simmons Invitational (Jan. 22) -- to earn his second NCAA provisional time of the season. The performance also gives the Wolverine newcomer the Canadian junior record in the indoor 3,000, bettering Ian Clarke's 26-year-old mark by more than two seconds."

Yes, that:s it... Mr. Woods. I would have thought someone like Sully or Brannen would have popped a sub-8.00 as a junior. What credentials did this kid have in high school?
