  • Chicago Tribune endorses Obama

For the first time in its 161 year history The Chiacgo Tribune endorses a Democrat. 8-)

This says it all for me:

"Many Americans say they're uneasy about Obama. He's pretty new to them.

We can provide some assurance. We have known Obama since he entered politics a dozen years ago. We have watched him, worked with him, argued with him as he rose from an effective state senator to an inspiring U.S. senator to the Democratic Party's nominee for president.

We have tremendous confidence in his intellectual rigor, his moral compass and his ability to make sound, thoughtful, careful decisions. He is ready."

They're endorsing that socialist? Or do they know him better than most?

Only one mistake in 161 years seems pretty good to me. Heck, I'm dang near half that old and I make a least one mistake a day.

So now we await the Washington Times. Surely they'll get it right?

I guess the Chicago Tribune done been hi-jacked by dem folks that McCain calls "Georgetown Cocktail Party Republicans", like George Will, Peggy Noonan, Christopher Buckley, and all dem other elitists with dat fancy Ivy League/Yankee book learnin'.

Yup, The WT is probably about our last chance. The Daily Oklahoman has already endorsed McCain. That would make two newspapers. Should be enough.

I'm always amused by those who say "Obama is a socialist! He wants to introduce free health care! Increase taxes! If he wins, I'm moving to Canada!".

It occurs to me that it's just possible that the reason for the Tribune's endorsement has to do with the fact that what's good for Chicago is good for the Tribune. I can't think of anything that would be better for Chicago than to get the 2016 Olympic Games. And I think their chances of doing that would be greatly enhanced by Obama's election, for a number of reasons, not the least of which is his enormous popularity abroad. Conversely, McCain's election might be a negative.

Is this a good reason for a major newspaper to endorse a presidential candidate? In Chicago, perhaps it is.

Hey, I get the Tribune, I read the Tribune, it is because Obama is a better candidate.

As for Trib wanting to get the Olympics, sure. It will give them lots of opportunities for scandals to cover with the Daley shenanigans. If the Olympics go to Chicago you can bet the Cook County crowd will want to get their share of the pie.
