LOL nice update trackhead. I'm glad to see Snell has a great sense of humour.

by the way why is this thread in the 'things not track and field' category?

Obviously I didn't read closely enough! So it will be a warm down. I love the four minute line.

And that speaking of those Tarverns in the woods, that reminds me. If you're ever hiking in Muir woods (near SF) don't miss the Bavarian tourist club. Its a bar literally in the woods with a deck looking out over the redwoods.

No. You are confusing him with Herb Elliott.

Shades of Gordon Pirie here who was also quite serious about orienteering. It seems that there should be more cross over with track. Certainly in my university days we would persuade quite a few orienteers to compete in the 5000m and cross country. They were excellent runners (no surprises there of course).
What really slows you down in orienteering are all those damn taverns along the way.

But the REALLY funny line was:

It will be a more relaxed race next year and Snell is not expected to break the 4min barrier.

i noticed it said he is doing the orienteering event too. So is he treating the masters mile a warm up event?

Trackhead, could U please email me privately with any other details of your chat with Dr. Snell? Did he call you? Is he aware that the UK magazine Running Fitness jumped the gun -- suggesting a track comeback? Just curious.

    I'm at [email protected]

I just got off the phone with Peter and he asked me to set some things straight:

He is not, in any way, making any sort of athletics comeback. 8min miles are all he manages these days, as far as running goes. He will be cheering ont he New Zealand masters runners, as well as competing in masters orienteering, a sport in which Peter plans to continue competing for sometime.

but no running comeback in any form.

    Sorry guys.

SAW PETER IN VANCOUVER CANADA,2004//@HARRY JEROME
    WITH WALKER&STEVE SCOTT.HE LOOKED GREAT FOR 64.

hope they run his group at milrose games ,it,ll be fun.

our local group from kentucky is heading to newyork for 5th ave.mile&our track club annual outing.8 team members are running.

the people in newyork said there will be 2-3 masters trying like hell to break 4:10 or 4 minutes.sounds like fun.

Shades of Liu Xiang as discussed before. Quite the site I came upon when I googled him and cigarettes:
