I guess this is a good time to recall how great a college running back Maurice was.. The year that Ohio state won the national championship Maurice was unstoppable.. elusive, strong, sturdy and quick as a cat. As explosive a back as we see in college. When the Big bowl game came in 2002 it was argued that if Miami could stop Clarrett they could win.. well by the stats they technically did stop him as he did not get near the yardage he was used to gettting.. the only problem was that what it took to stop Clarrett cost the Miami defense everything and the holes left were exploited and Ohio won.. and when the chips were down even with every linbacker on the Miami defense trained on Clarrett he put it in the enzone for the final TD.. make no mistake about it he was by far the biggest reason they won that championship...
He may have been dumb as a stump , he may have been too smart for his own good, he may have been manipulated and used, he may just be another foolish arrogant punk.. but one thing he was: the best college running back of 2002 bar none and if someone had instilled in him a Curtis Martin attitude he would have been a great NFL back.
