Tafnut: How do you think Jacksonville will do in the NFL playoffs?

  • #2
Oh - I just posted on the other NFL thread, but here's the lowdown - keep it on the down low!

I went to the game yesterday and the Jags were bestial (in the good sense). Yes, the Titans are stinky (we kept singing the sha-na-na-goodbye song to Fisher - he's toast), but next week everyone will be healthy. Gerrard is hot and Leftwich is a proven gamer (any QB that has to be carried to the huddle by his linemen, cuz he's broken his leg - but is STILL playing - is a gamer) and Jimmy Smith and Fred Taylor are fearsome. Yesterday's Play of the Game was Toefield's rushing TD, where SIX Titans hit him over 20 yards and he wouldn't go down, so he's a weapon too. I think Del Rio knows what he's doing. I think the Pats REALLY are good, but the Jags are VASTLY underrated! Yes, I'm being a homer here, but I really would put my hard-earned pesos on them this week. The week after that will be a different story.

Thanks for asking - I'm sure you realize what a shy poster I am, and how difficult it has been for me to put my thoughts down in a post!! (Just think about how often I post with absolutely no thought process involved at all!!)

Tafnut: Thanks for low down! I have an interest in Jax since I basically grew up and graduated from high school there and I remember how long and hard the town tried to get a professional team. Jax had a USFL team for a while and some others; its quest for team, kinda reminds me of DC's longing for a MLB team until it findly got the Nats last season. As you see from my post on the other thread, I am not a Redskins fan.

Cool - they are always the city powerhouse - what year? Our state meet is at Wolfson this year!

I graduated in 1975. Wolfson was not a powerhouse then, what's happened? In my day, Raines was the powerhouse; in the mid 1970s, they had Terry LeCount, who I believe was nationally ranked in the 100, 200, and 400. I believe he was their QB, went to UF, and enjoyed an NFL career with the Vikings as a WR. So, where do you teach?

On the other hand, the Pats may just kick Jag butt all over their frozen tundra!

The take of the local internet curmudgeon

                            <<Patriots Jackstomp Jags

This game helped legitimize all the East Coast morons who insist "you gotta watch out for those Patriots." With gimpy Byron Leftwich at quarterback, the Jags were impotent and useless and unwatchable.

They were lucky to be able to pad their record all season with an easy schedule. Every team in the AFC West, including the Raiders, was better than Jacksonville, a dreadful city represented by a dull and boring team that didn't show up in the playoffs.

Yes, I'll give the Patriots some credit for making the Jags look bad, but if I was smart, I would have bet 1,000 simoleons -- not so much on New England, but against the jittery Jags.>>

For his trashing of the other games:

EXCELLENT - hope he keeps telling everyone that - we've got enough development going on already!

As I may have mentioned before, I have been in 47 states and dozens of countries, and I would not trade my life here with anyone's else's home city (and I hope the rest of you feel that way about your home also).
