We watch this show every night after the Daily Show. Hilarious - a great complement to the Daily Show.
It was fun to watch Colbert rip AP (every day this week) for not giving him credit for the word, when in fact its use on his show (his debut show, no less) is what eventually let to it winning the American Dialect Society’s award. On the other hand, when Colbert did a phone interview with the professor Thursday night, and the prof indicated the word was in the OED, it took a bit of wind out of Colbert’s sails.

He's all pompous, right-wing gasbag fake. Once you get comfortable with that persona and the fact that it is all a put-on the show works great. The best part is he stays in character for the interviews. Since the interviews are the one unscripted part of the show, he has to think on his feet in pompous, right-wing gasbag mode, and the result is that many of these turn into classics.

Just got around to watching Colbert at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner April 29th. Hilarious. Skewering Bush, the administration, the press and others in their face. 24 minutes long. Ends with a kind of lame video fake White House press conference thing, but the standup at the dinner is priceless.

Then again, I'll never see what people think is funny about those gasbags. They try way too hard to be funny.
