    • Roughly one-third of troops on active duty or in the National Guard have declined to take the vaccine, military officials recently told Congress. In some places, such as Fort Bragg, N.C., acceptance rates are below 50%.

      • Meanwhile....

European leaders mostly procured AstraZeneca shots, then excessively talked it down, and now European citizens are refusing to get them, waiting instead for unavailable mRNA vaccines while unused AZ doses pile up.

Why are we giving military folks an option on the covid vacinne? We fill them chock-full of vaccines all the time with very limited opt-outs.

My dad was in the British army in the mid 50s, including some time in Germany. He said that the macho types tended to be those who were most scared of getting jabs.

It may be the opposite of what you're thinking - they don't want to go before the more needy get it. We're still early in the game and many people still want it, need it.

Probably because the vaccines are still under emergency use authorization; they have not received full-fledged FDA approval yet.

It's a Brave New World out there, sir!

Wow. Such charitable behavior.. Pardon me if I don't believe that. I don't listen to much talk radio but it seems like anytime I do I hear hosts doubting shot and mask effectiveness. My two sisters taking care of their husbands made sure they received shot as soon as possible.

LOL. You should be a stand-up comedian.

“The Army tells me what, how and when to do almost everything,” said Sgt. Tracey Carroll, who is based at Fort Sill, an Army post in Oklahoma. “They finally asked me to do something and I actually have a choice, so I said no.”

Sergeant Carroll, 24, represents a broad swath of members of the military — a largely young, healthy set of Americans from every corner of the nation — who are declining to get the shot, which for now is optional among personnel. They cite an array of political and health-related concerns.

Some of the concerns stem from misinformation that has run rampant on Facebook and other social media, including the false rumor that the vaccine contains a microchip devised to monitor recipients, that it will permanently disable the body’s immune system or that it is some form of government control.

In some ways, vaccines are the new masks: a preventive measure against the virus that has been politicized.

What tours did you serve in the military?
In my 20 years, I was always proud at the behavior of those serving with me. We knew we there to serve the broader needs of a nation, and we knew there was a lot of sacrifice involved.
Your cynicism is 'duly noted' (thanks, gm).
