  • San Francisco police officer dies of covid while on leave for failing to meet vaccination requirement

    Comment

    • Noted Scholar Gene Simmons:

"If you're willing to walk among us unvaccinated, you are an enemy," the KISS frontman said Wednesday in an interview on "TalkShopLive."

"I don't care about your political beliefs," the "Rock and Roll All Nite" singer said while discussing canceling tour dates earlier this year when he and fellow bandmate Paul Stanley tested positive with so-called breakthrough cases of the coronavirus after being vaccinated and a guitar tech for the group reportedly died.

"You are not allowed to infect anybody just because you think you've got rights that are delusional," Simmons, 72, said.

"You don't have the right to go through a red light — actually the government has the right to tell you to stop," he continued.

"If they tell you you can't smoke in a building, you can't smoke in a building. And that's not because they want to take away your rights — that's because the rest of us hate it. We don't want to smell your smoke."

"I don't want to catch your disease," Simmons added. "I don't want to risk my life just because you want to go through a red light. This whole idea, this delusional, evil idea that you get to do whatever you want and the rest of the world be damned is really terrible."

        • Never was a Gene Simmons fan. Could be changing my mind at this late date.

          • How Does This End?

            Thinking about Covid and normalcy.

The bottom line is that Covid now presents the sort of risk to most vaccinated people that we unthinkingly accept in other parts of life. And there is not going to be a day when we wake up to headlines proclaiming that Covid is defeated. In many ways, the future of the virus has arrived.

All of which raises the question of which precautions should end — now or soon — and which should become permanent.

            • The LA Times had a similar story today about the inability to declare the virus conquered.

CDC shifts pandemic goals away from reaching herd immunity

The prospects for meeting a clear herd-immunity target are “very complicated,” said Dr. Jefferson Jones, a medical officer on the CDC’s COVID-19 Epidemiology Task Force. “Thinking that we’ll be able to achieve some kind of threshold where there’ll be no more transmission of infections may not be possible,” Jones acknowledged last week to members of a panel that advises the CDC on vaccines.

Vaccines have been quite effective at preventing cases of COVID-19 that lead to severe illness and death, but none has proved reliable at blocking transmission of the virus, Jones noted. Recent evidence has also made clear that the immunity provided by vaccines can wane in a matter of months.

The result is that even if vaccination were universal, the coronavirus would probably continue to spread.
Experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have set aside herd immunity as a national target for ending the pandemic.

              • For too many in authority there is no endgame....as if no one ever got sick before.

Oregon still has mask mandates for outdoor events! It is insane.

Get people vaccinated...the rest is all political theater at this point.

I got asked this the other day and I said what I believe - that this will not end. The government likes it too much, because they can exert their authority over the citizenry and look like good guys while doing it - doling out money, causing inflation, etc. And the media loves it - it affects their jobs almost 0% and they have plenty of good stories to write about. With the government and the media onboard this will not end.

The problem now is at the state level. I've been to Minnesota and Florida in the last month and both have zero mask mandates....it was great...time to move on.

Oregon is completely over the top...vaccinated levels for adults was 70% back in June! Unvaccinated get sick that is their problem. No endgame...

As a poster who I have enormous respect for, your thought process troubles me. I don't disagree with it at all which is the concerning part to me.

                        • I agree 100% about what was said about the CDC and the government in general. I've gotten a sense for quite some time now that certain folks are loathe to give up whatever power and/or influence they currently have.

I don't want the unvaccinated to die, or even get sick. And I don't insist they get it, either. But, it's been out for nearly a year now free to all. So the chips must fall where they may.

                          • The other group that loves it is the testing industry. They're making huge bucks, while totally decimating the travel industry.

                            • Travel industry is doing fine from my recent experience....I've flown on 3 trips since July and the planes were all full and airports were crowded...

I really doubt the testing companies are behind it.... if varies too much from state to state,
