    • The statewide "shelter in place" order was lifted a week ago, and many people are behaving like we are back to normal. When I went to a public park to run on Saturday, there was a softball team practicing there, and two other large groups (15-20 people each) having picnics at the pavilions. There were dozens of cars outside of an Olive Garden, and I don't think they were for take-out orders. (Some restaurants are still closed for dine-in.) I know we haven't had a new case in our county for two weeks, but that may change quickly if people continue to behave like this. Our gym also opened a week ago, but I haven't been there.

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan are giving $100,000 to each of their eight favorite restaurants

My son who is in the food service industry just took a job yesterday as restaurants re-open around here. Because some workers in the industry make more by staying on unemployment, he was told it was difficult to fill jobs at the moment.

          • In Florida, salons/barber shops can open via appointment only and the waiting area has to be fit with all other social distancing guidelines. One shop I passed by on my way to the grocery story had their "waiting room" outside...iow...they didn't want anyone waiting. So there were three guys standing outside the door nearly nose to nose in conversation. They clearly did not read the "droplets" article posted in the Covid-19 thread a few days ago.

If there is one place I would avoid for a while, it is certainly a gym.

background is bogus. That’s like practicing without a license. 10 point automatic deduction. -10/10

                  • True story: most of my experiences with the DMV in New Jersey have been lengthy to say the least. Spending hours on line.

Anyway, my last driver’s license renewal was right after a stem cell transplant to deal with my Multiple Myeloma and I had lost 25 pounds and was very weak. So I really needed a walker to get around.

My wife and I arrive at the DMV and the line seems endless. But before you even get on line, you have to take a number and first go to the front desk when the number is called. At the front desk, there is a DMV employee and a state cop.

The DMV employee checks that my documents are in order, gives me a form to fill out and says I can then get on the back of the line. The cop sees my walker, pulls me aside and tells me quietly that after I fill out the form, to come back to him. Which I did and he put me in an express lane for the disabled. I was out in 25 minutes. My wife and I even had time for a very nice lunch!

So there can be advantages to being sick. :-)

                    • My most fun experience at a DMV was about 10 years ago in Durham, NC, last time I had to renew my license with a written test. Its 20 questions identifying traffic signs. You have to get 15 right to pass. Not actually written as you look into a screen. So I'm doing it, and I get the first 18 correct - I'm 100% sure of it - so I've passed! On 19 I'm not sure of the answer so I pull back from the screen and I see the examiner's sheet has the answer so I laugh and say, "Oh its ..." (whatever it was).

She stops me, and says, "You cheated. You fail." I said, wait a minute, I got 18 of the first 18 correct so I had passed, and she said it doesn't matter. I had cheated. I tell her, OK, let me take it again. And her answer is no, its a 60-day waiting period before you can take it again.

So no license for 60 days. Of course, about 45 days out, I get stopped for speeding. Now I technically have no license. That was fun to get that fixed. Fortunately I was the "team doctor" for the Durham cops, and the cop who stopped me was one of my patients.

                      So I hate the DMV.
