Headline: What social isolation may be doing to our brains
Richard A. Friedman is a professor of clinical psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College.
Now that the country is slowly emerging from lockdown, we might consider what effect this vast experiment in social isolation has had on not just how we feel but also how we think.
Many of my friends and patients have been telling me they feel mentally duller and unfocused — even those who are still busy working and, in some cases, exercising even more than usual.

For the last 20 years of my career I worked in an office environment where I worked four-day weeks, ten hours a day, with at least one telecommute day a week. Highly recommended, these days with mostly telecommute days! The only folks who ever had a problem with my schedule (and those of my coworkers) were the occasional paranoid management-types who didn't trust their workforce because they knew that if they were working from home they'd be f'n off, so thought we would too.

Had to buy my mother a refrigerator, all the major big box stores were out of supply within a 30 mile radius, and I was told that this was the case all over the country. Finally found a big box retailer that had an "open box" refrigerator and it was exactly the size and style she liked.
Friends, when a 76 year old woman has her refrigerator stall in June you learn quickly that the most essential workers are the guys making and repairing refrigerators, and the only guys more essential are the guys making and repairing air conditioning and HVAC units.Last edited by user4; 06-17-2020, 05:05 PM.
