First Fred Willard and now Larry Sabato. Hill, you're slipping.

Actually, I've never heard of Sabato either.

He's listed right before Placido Domingo

Probably not much of a bright spot for unsecured creditors. Even in such situations, the legal and other costs associated with the bankruptcy often result in the unsecured creditors getting paid a few pennies on the dollar.

I was still active and knew the Chesapeake founders. The OKC oil community was skeptical of the profitably of the drilling packages Chesapeake was selling at exorbitant mark-up during its initial meteoric rise. Turns out we were right all along. Chesapeake insiders made enormous money on the front end whether or not the wells ever paid out. Investors took a bath.
The magnificent Chesapeake campus and purchase of huge swaths of adjacent, unelated real estate were symbolic of conspicuous consumption. Chesapeake wooed my specifically trained, gainfully employed geologist/geophysicist daughter for years, offering an insane salary. Her upscale gated community is now littered with For Sale signs for homes of laid-off Chesapeake employees.

Yep, I received legal notice of Chesapeake bankruptcy today. I have some backed up Chesapeake royalties but do not expect to receive much if any. This is the largest of the twelve bankruptcy notices I have received, only one of which has continued royalty payments. Not personally significant but equally affected along with oil producers and purchasers are the service companies.

                  Was she offered botox treatments?
Hidden wine cave, $110 million parking bill: Energy collapse wasn’t only thing that sank Chesapeake

Other revelations include a wine collection in a cave hidden behind a broom closet in the Chesapeake office. Extravagances further included a season ticket package to the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder that was the biggest in the league and a lavish campus that was modeled after Duke University, complete with bee keepers, botox treatments and chaplains for employees.

In my woeful experience,in virtually all Chapter 7 and most chapter 11 bankruptcies, Assets exceed Liabilities only after most people involved lose a lot of money.

It was modeled after the Duke Campus because Aubrey McClendon, co-founder of Chesapeake Energy, graduated from Duke. Not one of our finest hours. (And also because its the most beautiful campus in the USA)

I was going to call BS on that, but dang, it actually is. The Red Tree Farm USED to be pretty, but then deep-pocket donors filled every square inch with buildings with their names on them.

Well, if any consolation, they're doing the same thing to Duke's campus. It is incumbent upon any university President that they have to build more buildings to preserve their legacy.

                          • I worked a couple of NCAAs(or something) at Duke. I can't comment on relative beauty because I but could not find the campus for the trees. I just remember walking down into the bowl, open to the East(?).. I worked the HJ the first time I worked Duke, also the first time I remember calling time foul on a woman HJer. (Gina Johnson, USC in the HEPS). I think a little redhead from Idaho won the Womens HJ. someone could probably look it up.

Gea Johnson of Arizona State won the '90 NCAA hept at Duke. The HJer you're thinking of (probably) is Amber Welty, who won in '88. Angie Bradburn of Texas won in '90.

I have very fond memories of Duke, since that's where Southwest Texas State's men finished 7th, with two individual champions.

And the announcer at those meets was the Commish, Bob Hersh, with me sitting next to him as his on-field spotter.
