That is actually a business that hires a lot of Olympians - gymnasts usually, and an occasional diver.

I have been to many and always marvel at the sheer athleticism of many of their performers.

I have very fond memories of Duke, since that's where Southwest Texas State's men finished 7th, with two individual champions.
Yep, Gia Johnson. I know she won the hep, that was just one, time-foul jump. She was a very aggressive athlete. Later tried bobsledding, I think. And, yep, the name Amber rings a bell. I may be remembering her because of her red hair and she was the smallest jumper left in the field at the final heights. It was 1990 because I worked LJ the second time. Still did not find the campus but found Cameron Indoor Arena, marveled at the mahogany and brass basketball arena.
The most memorable thing about that trip was, on the way home I paused to photograph the Sevier County, TN courthouse and the statue of Dolly Parton, sitting on a tree stump, playing a guitar.
On returning to my car, I found the generator kaput. Where, on a Sunday morning,1000 miles from home, in a rural Tennesse town are you going to find a generator for a Lincoln. Turns out not a problem. A delightful young girl driving an American Eagle jumpstarted me and led me to Mouse's Garage/Junkyard on the edge of town. Four employees scoured the yard for an hour, found three possible generators, one worked. Mouse apologetically charged me $20 and said return it if it craps out. No problem getting home but a new generator costs a lot more than $20.

That is so distressing! Amazing show. Hope they recover and come back.

            • Meanwhile....

“The upside of living on social media is the admiration and envy of your friends. The downside is when your dinner party goes viral. Literally.“

The virus didn’t stop a Washington socialite from throwing a backyard soiree. Then the tests came back positive.

And that fallout has been unsparing — not just for hosting the party, but for failing to immediately notify anyone who may have been exposed to the virus.

“Everyone’s angry,” said one neighborhood mother, who declined to give her name while discussing Bronczek. “Everyone’s trying to figure out who has it.”

RJ Whyte Event Production, which coordinated the virtual gala, was not involved in Bronczek’s dinner, according to the company. The wait staff of Occasions, which catered both the gala and the live dinner, reportedly have been quarantined for two weeks and are unable to work.

The lush photos taken at the event looked careless to some attendees after the fact. One guest called Powell and asked him to remove the images on his personal Instagram account because it clearly showed who attended the dinner; he complied. A series of photos remained on Bronczek’s Instagram page for a week before she was finally convinced to take them down.

A night to remember. A night to forget. Or, perhaps, a lesson learned: No one is immune.

Larry Sabato had been Student Body President at the University of Virginia and just become a bottom-rung Professor when I got to the Law School. As a dormitory counselor, I met him and heard him give a talk.

He is still at UVA decades later and now considered one of the best political prognosticators and often on cable news shows. He studies and predicts in great detail how each state will turn in Presidential, Senate, and House races.

Indeed...very well known in the political landscape...but what an office!

I deserve this. But you should know the room's been cleaned up. Well, the back corner has. The rest will be done during 2021-23. There's a plan. Really.

Chesapeake also had cots for employees since you worked 16 hours a day and they encouraged you not to leave.

Chesapeake did have a reputation as a sweatshop... that is why my daughter chose family life over their enticements.

On the first day of Oregon’s statewide mask order, a group of Oregon State troopers refused to wear face coverings inside a Corvallis coffee shop despite being asked to so. “F— [Gov.] Kate Brown,” one of the troopers reportedly said. There’s video, too.

That's a second sentence you want to hear after you've just shown your butt.

How was that allowed? It could have gone very wrong. It was fun that it didn't, but no sane adult should have said, 'sure - go ahead'
