  • Not wearing clothes will not protect you from covid . . .

The world's largest nudist resort is at the center of a Covid-19 outbreak with nearly 150 people testing positive after staying at or visiting the clothing-optional beach destination in southern France.

Local health authorities say 95 people staying at Cap d'Agde Naturist Village, on the Mediterranean coast of France's Occitanie region, were found to have Covid-19, while a further 50 who went through the resort also tested positive on their return home.

    • ‘But I Saw It on Facebook’: Hoaxes Are Making Doctors’ Jobs Harder

Without the support of social platforms, our efforts to stamp out viral misinformation feel futile.

The news came from a colleague — not a doctor but someone who works in the emergency room and has seen firsthand the devastation caused by the pandemic. “There is a cure for Covid-19,” he said. “It must be true because a doctor friend shared a Facebook post about this cure.”

When confronted with the latest, credible scientific evidence — that there is no cure for Covid-19, that the disease has killed more than 180,000 Americans precisely because we have no effective way of averting death for the millions who are infected — he doubled down. “But I saw it on Facebook,” he said.

In the emergency room and in conversations with the American public through cable news interviews and Op-Eds like this one, wreddere’ve both been working to dissect and debunk the many myths about this new virus, its potential treatments and the possibility of a vaccine. We read the mistruths on our patient’s phones, listen to theories borrowed from internet chat rooms and watch as friends and family scroll through Facebook saying, “Here — it says that this was definitely created in a Chinese laboratory.”

Seven months into the worst pandemic of our lifetime, the virus continues to spread alongside medical myths and health hoaxes. False news is not a new phenomenon, but it has been amplified by social media.

        • As I posted on the other thread, NJ is allowing indoor dining and also for indoor movie theaters to open on Friday. Both will be limited to 25% of capacity and require social distancing and masks when not eating.

NJ is also increasing the max for weddings, funerals, and receptions to the lesser of 150 or 25% of capacity. Social distancing and masks (except when eating) required. Tables will be generally limited to eight people.

Update: However, NYC will not allow indoor dining until there is a vaccine.

Simple, just refer those sort of patients to the Facebook Hospital ER. Just make sure you set up a Facebook page first so there's proof it exists.

No wonder half the population of NYC has moved to long island, CT and MA.. Finally it is all making sense.

                      • So here's a good one. One of my fraternity brothers from Chapel Hill lives here in Colorado. His oldest daughter just started her freshman year at UNC. On day 1 of classes, her roommate got COVID-19. So she had to go into 2 week quarantine with the roomie, then she (my friend's daughter) tested positive, no symptoms at all, and their other suitemates tested positive as well. Two days before their quarantine ended, the school shut down and went to all online. She's staying in the dorm another week or so, then all the suitemates are moving into a condo at Wrightsville Beach for the online semester. Next up will probably be a big hurricane.....

If an IU student dies due to COVID-19, they may be eligible to receive their degree if they’ve completed enough of it.

China’s “champion eaters” have attracted a dedicated following for their ability to gobble down vast quantities of food. Swallowing eye-popping volumes of fried chicken, noodles and hot dogs has made these gluttons internet stars.

But China’s state broadcaster has departed from its regular programming to expose hoaxes behind their seemingly insatiable appetites.

Pretending to eat while secretly spitting out food, editing hours of footage to appear like a single sitting and vomiting between courses were among the tricks CCTV revealed.

The exposé was part of “operation empty plates”, a campaign launched by President Xi Jinping to promote food security in China, which wastes an estimated 18m tonnes a year, enough to feed about 40m people.
