  • California will get 327,000 doses in first tranche from Pfizer. That won't go very far, even among the highest-priority....

The 327,000 doses will go to health care workers, but the state’s vaccine committee is still determining which health care workers will go first, Newsom said. There are about 2.4 million health care workers in California, so the first round of vaccine distribution will not provide enough doses for all of them.

When they get back from the UW game Saturday, will they be in quarantine at school for 2 weeks??!! They have a home game with OreSt in that time. The whole team must be on-line learning.
Stanford will go to Seattle for the Washington game, then stop at Oregon State on the way back (turning a home game into an away game).

        • One of San Diego's favorite athletes. I'm seeking tributes for story I posted on Times of San Diego:
San Diego's Arnie Robinson — an Olympic long jump champion and member of the sport's Hall of Fame — died Tuesday morning, his son says.

Please send memories of Arnie to me at [email protected]

          I'm updating obituary.

          Many thanks. Deepest condolences.

Very sorry to hear this. I knew he had cancer, but it's still very sad to hear of his death. I saw him win his bronze medal in Munich and the gold in Montreal with his lifetime best in the first round (just like Randy Williams in Munich, Willie Steele in London, and Bob Beamon in Mexico City).

One of my memories from Montreal was seeing Larry Myricks break a bone in his foot while he was warming up on the long jump runway (I was sitting very close to the long jump area). I thought Myricks would medal in Montreal, but he didn't win an Olympic medal until Seoul in 1988.

Arnie Robinson was a great talent and a tremendous competitor.

From the article on the home page, his loss will be felt by many. RIP.

I do not know about the US, but under level 3 or level 4 lockdown in NZ, it would have been illegal. Thankfully, we have been at level 1 and covid free for several months now.

And reading on the restrictions in many European countries at the moment, it would appear to be illegal there as well.

In Belgium they are really tough. According to the news today it is illegal to attend a sex orgy with 4 or more people, as a Hungarian Member of the European Parliament found out when police raided a sex orgy of 25 persons, mostly male.

Sadly, I believe the gentleman is no longer an MEP.

And, not surprising, that former member of the Belgian parliament, is a raging homophobe....Jimmy Swaggart of Belgium.

Don't think it'd be a sex orgy unless you had more than 4 people.

                  • Passed away this morning in Los Angeles. He was a close friend and fraternity brother of my father in law, George Wolfberg. It was a Jewish fraternity that was the only one willing to accept non-white member at UCLA. (George Takei also was a member.) Rafer contributed to the LA community after retiring from his athletics career.
Rafer Johnson's legacy was interwoven with Los Angeles’ history, beginning with his performances as a world-class athlete at UCLA.

                        • The authorities are more lenient here in the US, and that can have consequences:

Headline - New Orleans "superspreader" swingers convention leads to at least 41 COVID-19 infections

"I wouldn't do it again if I knew then what I know now. It weighs on me and it will continue to weigh on me until everyone is 100% better," the event organizer said.

Apparently, the UK plan is to start with frontline medical staff and those who are most at risk and then move on to the rest of the population.

According to BBC: "Elderly people in care homes and care home staff have been placed top of the priority list, followed by over-80s and health and care staff."

Not sure I agree with this. Nursing Homes are not awash with Covid, and proper safety procedures can and should be enforced.
