Florida's DeSantis is being pathetic about it, mewling how important sports is to the young (dead?) athletes.
I'm all about the importance of sports, but not at this price.

    • In Louisiana, John Bel Edwards is our Democratic governor and he was one of the first governors to shut everything down and the last to open things up. Fortunately, LSU Head Coach Ed Ogeron, who is friends with Edwards and campaigned for him during his reelection, has vowed that he will follow all of the governor's directives with regards to COVID-19 to the dismay of many Tiger fans.

      • And that was that.....

The Big Ten is postponing its fall season to the spring, sources tell ESPN.

        • #B1G commissioner Kevin Warren on BTN: "We just believed collectively there's too much uncertainty at this point in time in our country to encourage our student-athletes to participate in fall sports."

            • I think the PAC-12 ACC (with or without Notre Dame ) will follow. The question is whether the SEC and Big 12 will hold out. They need two holdouts to have a playoff.

I am guessing that playoff does not count as an NCAA championship.

or, to be a PITA, no playoff has ever counted as an "NCAA championship," since they aren't in the biz of champs in that sport.

Which may happen if the SEC and/or ACC shelve the fall. Individual schools will try to soldier on (unwisely).

and I that the Big 12 - the linchpin in today's events - is very much "split" on a decision. A small group wants to cancel, a small group wants to play, a larger group wants to delay. ADs meet today and then ADs & presidents meet jointly around 6 ET.

                      • Meanwhile in looney land...

Lou Holtz tells Fox News that college football needs to play amid coronavirus pandemic this fall: "Let's move on with our life! When they stormed Normandy, they knew there were going to be casualties -- there were going to be risks."

So the metaphor is: soldiers in war = kids at school, playing games . . . . OK!
Never had any use for Lou Holtz. Less now.

Never a fan of Lou Holtz....this only confirms how loathsome he is.

To be fair to Holtz (and I don't really have any desire to be), this metaphor is used several thousand times a day coaches, players, and broadcasters. It's not too surprising that the more delusional of that group would extend the (ridiculous) metaphor here.
