      • A small Alabama church had a revival and now 40 people have coronavirus

More than 40 people have coronavirus after attending a week-long revival at a small north Alabama Baptist church last week, pastor Daryl Ross said today. Only two male members’ cases were serious, he said. “One respiratory, he almost got put in the hospital, but he’s OK,” Ross said. “The other one fought it off with two days in bed.”

“The whole church has got it, just about,” Ross said, and that includes himself. Ross said he has tested positive but has few symptoms.

          Bergen Co.: 20,226(+0%)cases & 2,044 (+0%) deaths

NY, NJ, and Bergen include probable and confirmed deaths in their total deaths numbers. NYC includes only confirmed deaths.

NJ had 512 and NY had 536 new cases.
NJ had 11 new confirmed deaths.

NJ has 725 and NY 637 hospitalizations.
The Rt for NJ remained at 0.84.
The Monday (7/27/20) early afternoon numbers:

          Worldwide:16,396K(+2%)cases &650K(+1%) deaths
          The USA :4,331K(+0%) cases & 147K(+0%) deaths

          Bergen Co.:20,280(+0%)cases & 2,045(+%) deaths

The numbers are mostly pretty good except the Rt in NJ after several days at 0.84 jumped over the key 1.0 to 1.09 meaning the virus is expanding not retracting. However, Monday numbers are often skewed by late weekend reporting, so we will have to see the Tuesday/Wednesday numbers.

NJ had 446 new cases & 17 new confirmed deaths.
NY had 608 new cases & 11 new confirmed deaths.
The USA daily deaths dropped under 1K to 668.

            • The Atlantic article is useful. I also found this WaPo interview with a few leading epidemiologists to be helpful. (I'm assuming this was posted earlier.)

On Monday, Deborah Birx said Tennessee should close bars and limit indoor restaurant dining. Moments later, Gov. Bill Lee (R) said he would not follow the recommendation and would not give county mayors the authority to take actions locally.

                • I lived in TN for a couple of year in the early 80s and they have definitely gotten a lot more dense since I lived there, and that's saying a lot. Back then I was stopped on a major highway by the KKK to hand out literature, about the same time KKK folks were shooting old black women on their own front porch in Chattanooga with minimal consequences . . .

I wonder how many strains of the virus in Florida actually came through New York.
