              • NJ added Vermont back on the quarantine list. Hawaii and the neighboring states (NY, PA, DE, CT) and DC and some overseas territories are the only ones still off the list.

And lest any USAnians think that Australians are quick learners with smart political leadership....

Another state has had the virus escape from hotel quarantine due to sloppy practice! South Australia, which had not had a case for months, was too lazy or stupid (or both) to learn from Victoria's mistakes and NZ's and....

The usual suspect was a low paid, poorly trained worker who worked multiple jobs other than at a quarantine facility and lived in a relatively poorer suburb of Adelaide and had contact with lots of other people in similar standard jobs. So far, so familiar. Oh, and the clincher, no regular testing of quarantine workers!

You couldn't make this shit up because there's no better way to seed a pandemic.

The result has been a whole of state lockdown for 6 days. The state premier and chief stable door bolter, Steven Marshall said,

he was "going hard" and early. Time is of the essence. And we must act swiftly and decisively, we cannot wait to see how bad this becomes. We need a circuit-breaker to stay ahead of this. We need breathing space for a contact tracing blitz to protect the elderly, to protect the vulnerable, to protect our entire community.
Yeah, well, that's a right response but one that should not have been required. Your cheap hotel staffing solutions which saved a few 10's of thousands is now going to cost the state many billions.

At least Victoria is almost at 3 weeks without a local case and has finally decided to do a much better job when it restarts its hotel quarantine program shortly.

Everybody who works in [the Victorian] program will either work for this program, will either work for the Victorian government or be exclusively contracted for this purpose and this purpose only.

We will advance contact trace every single person who works in this program to work out who they live with, what those people do for a living.

For instance we don’t want a situation where someone is sharing a house with an aged care worker - we think that would be an unreasonable risk.

And I'd guess we will also have one of the highest rates of actually taking the vaccine, not just because we are more vulnerable, but because we grew up trusting medical science.

And many of us lived thru the polio scares and saw what the vaccine could do for that

                        • Now we are down to six... (not counting North Korea and Turkmenistan).

Pacific’s Samoa records first case of coronavirus

...in the past two months, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, the Marshall Islands and now Samoa have lost their coveted virus-free status, although none has so far reported community transmission.

The island nations and territories of Kiribati, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Tonga, and Tuvalu are believed to still be free of the virus.
