The 7-day moving average of daily deaths for the world dropped to under 10,000 for the last couple of days after peaking at 14,000+ in late January. So at least we are moving the the right direction for the last three weeks.

Behind the paywall, Dr Scott Gottleib (former FDA Commisioner) has an interesting Op-Ed piece in today’s Wall Street Journal.
Apparently, the Chinese government has given up claiming that COVID-19 was a USA plot. Now it says that COVID-19 did not originate in Wuhan, but Wuhan got it from imported frozen food imported from Europe. Of course, the rest of the world has yet to find a single case of COVID-19 attributable to frozen food but what the heck. It gives China an excuse to stop some imports.
As for me, I won’t have a problem eating Salmon or Cod that was frozen.

“#COVID19 did not start in central China’s Wuhan but may come through imported frozen food and packaging: experts,” said a Wednesday Facebook post by the ruling Communist Party’s official People’s Daily.

NJ Governor Murphy announced the sports venues with over 5K capacity will (as of March 1st) be able to have spectators up to 10% indoors and 15% outdoors for pro and college events. Smaller venues can have patents and guardians of the athletes. The change outdoes the NY change announced 2/10 to allow 10% in venues over 10K capacity.
The change will help the NJ Devils in the NHL who play in the Prudential Center (the “Rock”) which has a 16.4K capacity for hockey.
There are 7 college basketball Division 1 schools. Seton Hall plays at the Rock and has a home game after 3/1. Rutgers must follow Big 10 rules allowing only parents and guardians. Princeton (in the Ivies) is not playing. The other 4 schools have venues under 5K.
Several minor league baseball teams will be helped beginning in April. The Giants and Jets in the NFL play in NJ but their 2021 season is a long ways off.

Central Europe braced for third Covid wave
Czech Republic, with EU’s highest infection rate per capita, warns health system is stretched and country may need foreign help
JAMES SHOTTER — WARSAW VALERIE HOPKINS — BUDAPEST
Officials in the Czech Republic have warned that the country’s health system is on the brink of “absolute exhaustion” and may need help from abroad, as central Europe braces itself for a third wave of the pandemic.
Over the past two weeks, the country has recorded 968 new cases of coronavirus per 100,000 people, the EU’s highest infection rate in per capita terms, forcing many hospitals to delay non-Covidrelated treatment.
Vladimir Cerny, deputy health minister, said yesterday if the trend continued, hospital capacity would be overwhelmed within two to three weeks, and that the government was considering asking other EU states to take in patients.

Scientists said on 100% cotton the virus lasted for 24 hours, while on polycotton it only survived for six hours.
