The state of Georgia made it look like its covid cases https://mobile.twitter.com/Fahrentho...29906512404480 going down ***by putting the dates out of order on its chart*** May 5 was followed by April 25, then back to May again, whatever made it look like a downslope.

Gov. Brian Kemp’s office issued an apology after a Georgia Public Health Department chart wrongly reported a downward trend in #coronavirus cases. The error was at least the third in as many weeks: https://bit.ly/3dMXwQ2

    • Don't know if this site has been covered before. They look at future predictions of Virus cases and deaths. In Europe Belarus will skyrocket (remember the parades): In Asia it will be Bangladesh (Rohynga camps), in North America it will be Puerto Rico, and in S.America it will be (no surprise) Brazil. One surprise in Europe is Greece. Lauded so far for few cases, they have it becoming a hot spot.

I think you have to scroll down, it is a map of the US with circles centered on jurisdictions and presumably the diameter is proportional to the number of deaths... It's a method that can work if the proportionality constant (km/death), is not too large. When the constant creates a sphere with an area half that of the continental US for a single city, you have to wonder if there is an editor overlooking HS interns.

No new daily death total from NYC.

For the 2nd day on a row, the new deaths in Bergen County were fewer than a half percent.

USA new deaths were down to 1,260, down a notch from 2k daily in the recent past. That is partially due to NY And NJ totals now generally dropping to below 200 each daily.
It is partially due to being Sunday, when there is less reporting. And because stuff is seemingly lagged by a day sometimes Monday has a big dip. For some things I run a seven-day moving average, although I have also 'de-seasonalized' the data by getting daily relative factors to adjust for the periodic fluctuation in the lag in reporting.

8 Patients???? This is a marathon, not a dash. Let's save the cheers for much later.

              • Isn't the initial testing more to see how the vaccine works in a sense? What I heard this morning sounded positive but did caution that it could still be many months or even perhaps years before a product was brought to market.

                • Indeed...

Yet the results are preliminary and only for a portion of the study participants. Many vaccines fail to pass muster, even after showing positive signs in early testing.

The company’s vaccine could be ready for emergency use as early as the fall, if it proves to work safely in subsequent testing. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently gave Moderna permission to begin the second stage of testing.

The results don’t show whether the vaccine actually protected people from disease caused by the virus. That will be assessed in further studies.

Covid-19 Outbreak in Nigeria Is Just One of Africa’s Alarming Hot Spots

Dozens of doctors are infected and gravediggers are overwhelmed in Kano, Nigeria’s second-largest city, where inaction led to an unchecked outbreak. Across Africa, other hot spots are emerging.

The coronavirus has been slower to take hold in Africa than on other continents, according to the numbers released daily by the World Health Organization.

But blazing hot spots are beginning to emerge. Kano is only one of several places in Africa where a relatively low official case count bears no resemblance to what health workers and residents say they are seeing on the ground.

In Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, officials say that burials have tripled. In Tanzania, after cases suddenly rose and the United States Embassy issued a health alert, the Tanzanian government abruptly stopped releasing its data.

                    • Stock markets are grabbing at every hint of hope. This is only 8 cases tested, people. Eight ppl given the vax, blood found to have antibodies that kill #SARSCoV2 in petri dishes. We are still a lo-o-o-o-ng way from proving the mRNA vaccine is safe & effective at scale.

                        Worldwide: 4,711K (+1%) cases & 315K (+1%) deaths
                        The USA: 1,516K (+1%) cases & 89,932(+0%) deaths
                        New York: 351K (+1%) cases & 22,619 (+1%) deaths

                        Bergen Co.: 17,459(+1%)cases & 1,460(+0%) deaths

NYC deaths are only confirmed cases today.

Numbers are low today but that is probably due in part to weekend reporting lags.

NYC Mayor De Blasio says NYC beaches including Coney Island remain closed despite surrounding beaches opening up.

NJ Governor Murphy opens up golf ranges, tennis courts, shooting & archery ranges, batting cages, and community gardens. And foursomes can play golf.

What folks attribute a stock market movement to and the cause of a stock market movement are two very different things.

                              • And a good thing too.
"A home health aide in New Jersey who failed to self-isolate after undergoing a coronavirus screening is facing criminal charges after five people in a household where the aide worked tested positive for the coronavirus.

An 80-year-old female patient ultimately died from COVID-19 complications, state officials say."
She was tested and was told to isolate, and instead she went to work with 5 fragile elders. There will be more of these.
