Oct 25 (Reuters) - Russia reported a record high number of daily COVID-19 cases and some central European countries imposed fresh restrictions on Monday, as a new wave of the pandemic gathered pace.

Russia on Monday reported 37,930 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, its highest in a single day since the start of the pandemic, as well as 1,069 deaths related to the virus.

Russia has had 1000+ deaths for every day of this last week. They have a good vaccine but people won't take it and don't rust the government. Why does this sound so familiar? Needless deaths.

    • The good news is that as we approach midway through the semester, less than a quarter of the NJ school districts have had any COVID cases.

Give it time. A posting of an article putting a damper on the whole thing is soon to follow.

Good grief ......we've had a vaccine available for months for everyone that works fantastic.... ever since I got fully vaccinated this thing was over as far as it affected me or any of my fully vaccinated friends and family....the rest is all theater. Sure people test positive but being vaccinated it is at worse like the flu. A friend in England and her 90 year old mother had it recently and both are fine....they are vaccinated.

            • How about this? Those vaccinated who trust the effectiveness of the vaccine are free to get on with their life. Skeptics are free to choose, mask or no mask, at their own risk. The no-vax herd will soon be culled.

That is Minnesota... basically covid is over for the vaccinated.

                • More 'bad' news....

The concerns about Delta and breathrough infections seem to have been pretty overblown.

                  • It is not over for those with children who cannot yet be vaccinated. Nor for those we love with immuno-comprimised systems. It is not over for those us suffer and die from break-through cases of the virus. It may be far less common, but it still happens. I continue to wear a mask where needed despite being fully vaccinated; not for me, but for those around me who may not be as fortunate as I have been. I live in a state which continues to deny that the virus is of any significance. It might not be a popular position, but I will wear it to protect each of them, and those with whom they will come in contact.

In a society, it is always best to look out for the welfare of others.

                    • Children have had a very low risk from COVID-19 from the start. There are lots of states that don't take vaccines seriously but they also don't wear masks. So lots of luck.

                      • Where the Scandinavian COVID-19 experiment stands as of today:
                        • Finland: population - 5,536,146; deaths - 1154
                          Norway: population - 5.402,171; deaths - 900
                          Sweden: population - 10,402,070; deaths - 15,018

Sweden is currently 54th in deaths / million after as high as #5 last summer. (Finland is 136th and Norway is 146th) In the last seven days, they have done better than both Finland and Sweden.

Deaths in the last 7 days / million.

                          Finland 3 (105th)
                          Norway 1 (125th)
                          Sweden 0.7 (134th)
                          (USA is 34th with 24 / million.)

Their "maverick" approach is a thing of the past. More importantly, the share of fully vaccinated people.

                          Norway 68.2%
                          Finland 67.9%.
                          Sweden 67.9%.
