  • How about a Florida 'Tokyo Olympics'?!

Even as the coronavirus pandemic rages, Florida’s chief financial officer is pitching the Sunshine State as a replacement host of the 2021 Olympics.
    I'll officiate the PV!

I ran short of vacation days to officiate both the OT and OG and had to take two unpaid days off. I also had to skip the USATF Annual Meeting later in the year in San Francisco at which Ollan Cassel lost leading to a change in leadership.

A colleague and fellow clerk in Atlanta was a teacher had to take almost the entire OT without pay from his job because it was during the end of the NJ school year.

              • There's no way Florida should be hosting anything this summer. We are too hot, literally and figuratively.

We certainly have the infrastructure to hold it this year if need be, but . . . it would indeed be crazy to try under these circumstances.
And, I'm not so sure you want central Florida summer weather for an Olympics.

In 1996 I thought Atlanta weather was as cool as I had seen the southeastern USA ever - and I lived at the same climate in Durham, NC for almost 40 years. Yet the Europeans thought it was stifling and brutally hot. And last year I had a short twitter back-and-forth with a European Olympic writer who was telling me how Chicago was too hot in the summertime for sports - Chicago! They would go crazy if you tried to hold an Olympics in Florida in the summer.

                              • I guess I was life long acclimated. I did not think Atlanta was that hot. An opinion apparently not shared by the European decathlete who stripped down to his jockstrap in the infield.
