        • How much of a difference would a three month delay have made? I don’t know that I’ve seen that talked about at all in the media, anywhere. I think there are a lot of countries where three more months would’ve made a big difference in the number of people immunized, the ability to conduct Olympic trials in a more sane manner, and maybe even Japan would be better set to host.

I don't see a 3 month delay. TV people wouldn't like it at all.. though weather wise it would be much better. Tokyo is very hot in July.

Eugene would be fine. But vaccinations in Japan and the world are going to need more than a few months.

            • Olympics-Coe says Tokyo organisers delivered on COVID-19 protocols

World Athletics chief Sebastian Coe on Wednesday gave Tokyo Olympic organisers high marks for a marathon test event they staged in Sapporo, saying they were able to deliver both on the operation of the race and on their COVID-19 countermeasures.

              • Wow...6 whole athletes in a road race.... I'm sure that will convince a skeptical Japanese public.

                • It's already been established that this will be the Quarantine Olympics.
If anything, Japan may be better off for all the attention and help they're getting to make these OG happen.

                  • Japan would be better off if they just listen to the Japanese and just cancel the dumb thing. Japan needs vaccines not this crap. They have done well so far with the pandemic. Meanwhile...outside the US and a few other countries covid is worse than ever.

The craveness of the IOC is something to behold.

They are absolutely not in a hurry to vaccinate people, and that is totally on them.

That is true ...and I have posted countless articles on that....still not a reason to shove the Olympics on an unwilling public while Covid still rages worldwide .....And pretend we are doing them a favor.

                              • Japan set to extend coronavirus emergency, possibly until end of May

Still, an extension will certainly trigger a fresh wave of skepticism over the feasibility of hosting the Summer Olympics ahead of a rumored visit by International Olympics Committee President Thomas Bach later this month. Some critics have claimed the declaration’s end date was arbitrarily set for next week to accommodate Bach’s visit. The prime minister denied the Olympics factored into the emergency's timeline during an April 23 news conference.

The likelihood of an extended emergency reflects the surge in new cases driven by variants, which has shown no signs of slowing down. Experts have also said that the health care system in hard-hit Osaka has essentially collapsed.
