The U.S. Center for SafeSport suspended 1988 U.S. Olympic pairs bronze medalist and renowned figure skating coach Peter Oppegard Monday after an investigation of allegations of physical abuse, according to emails obtained by USA TODAY Sports and two people questioned by SafeSport.
He BIT a minor athlete and only got a one month suspension, in case anyone was wondering how SafeSport was going.

Any parent who would allow this cretin to get anywhere near their child should be arrested for child endangerment.

A lot of media buzz today about a 6-year old boy who ran an entire marathon with his family. Kara Goucher has weighed in with a negative assessment (https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Family/pa...ry?id=84541964).
IMHO an 8-hour run by a small child is definitely child abuse but then again, I tend to think that marathons for adults amounts to adult abuse :-)

A 6 year old running a whole marathon isn't necessarily abuse if the kid enthusiastically and energetically does it. But this quote from the article indicates the situation was indeed abusive.

"He was struggling physically and wanted to take a break and sit every three minutes," Crawford wrote in an Instagram post Tuesday. "After 7 hours, we finally got to mile 20 and only to find an abandoned table and empty boxes. He was crying and we were moving slow so I told him I'd buy him two sleeves [of potato chips] if he kept moving."

If there's a governing body overseeing the race director, that body should suspend him or remove him from future direction of races. How fuckin' stupid can you get.

As to the parents, a visit from child services is warranted. If they are capable of coming up with this bright idea, who knows what else they might cook up.
