I remember a hidden-camera show where they pranked Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap and NCIS-NOLA) and were ostensibly very mean to him, and he kept his composure and smiled through-out. That stuck with me.
Hey, dude, its not admiration, its a bromance

Well, at Rio, after his match that I watched (only time I have seen him play in person), I did stand about 8 feet away from him in the mixed zone. I thought maybe I sensed a connection.

Oh, yeah, I am so totally sure he felt it too!

Świątek will be the new no. 1 in the rankings on Monday, and with a pretty big lead, too (even if she doesn't win the final in Miami). Obviously Barty's retirement helped with that, but with the way the rankings work, she would likely climb to the top soon anyway. Great streak in recent tournaments and she's likely to gain more points soon, being a clay specialist. I wasn't convinced when she announced at the beginning od the year she would work with Tomasz Wiktorowski (the guy who coached Radwańska to her biggest successes), but it seems to have worked out for her.

If she stays healthy, don't think anyone will challenge her for top ranking the rest of this year. Unless Osaka or Sabalenka get it together (back together in Osaka's case).

I don't see Sabalenka getting there. Osaka has made a good comeback and just might pull it off, though I'm not sure she can climb to the top by the end of the year - Świątek has a huge lead when you count just the points earned since the start of 2022

Sabalenka has the raw talent. But I agree with you - it's a real longshot that she'll ever get it harnessed enough to threaten for the top spot. She's actually regressed this year because now her serve has collapsed, too. And I don't see Osaka even starting to close the point gap till after Wimbledon (clay and grass aren't exactly her strong suits). By then, Swiatek's lead could be 3000 points.

Świątek wins her 4th consecutive tournament, taking her winning streak to 21 matches (or 23, if you include the Billie Jean King Cup), the longest any woman has achieved in years. If there was any doubt about her being a deserving world's no. 1, it can be put to rest now.

Barty retired at the right time (for her, not the fans).

Świątek wins her second Roland Garros title in dominant fashion, taking her winning streak to 35 matches, the longest of the 21st century!

She now has more ranking points than Forum and Blogs combined. The current Forum is someone who has never played a Grans Slam quarterfinal. How bizarre is that?

With Barty gone, there is nobody else in women's tennis right now playing consistently at top level. Lots of random one-hit wonders. And it's been this way for a while now
